Anne Kerr

Glasgow born artist, living in West Wales, I am a landscape painter, it’s the sea and countryside that form the basis, for my paintings. They evolve through constantly looking at nature, the colours and textures and the relationship that the elements have to each other and how they impact on my own memories. Before my paintings can begin to develop, I like to identify with the place, exploring the rock pools, looking at the rock formations the coastal path….. It’s all about trying to find that special response that triggers inspiration.

Taking abstract photos and sketching are a continuous part of the mark making process and only the start of the mark making journey.

I paint from memory in the studio, thinking of what makes that place unique to paint, and how I can capture the essence of it. My response to painting landscapes has developed over many years since graduating from Derby University in 2001 where I studied Art Therapies. By using different materials intuitively to convey an idea, which involves manipulating and exploring the pictorial space just like the process of exploring the initial landscape.
