Carys Evans

_____

“Carys Evans was born in Carmarthen in 1955. She spent most of her career as a primary school teacher before taking early retirement and studying for a degree in Fine Art at Swansea Metropolitan University. Since graduating in 2013 she has devoted her time to painting. She now works from her studio in Langland.”

Carys is a figurative painter, focusing on the unheroic and everyday. Her paintings capture the quiet, overlooked moments of ordinary life. They also pose questions about the thoughts and relationships of the people who inhabit them. She works in several media including oil, acrylic, pastel, charcoal and household paint.

Her work is represented in Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales and the National Library of Wales, as well as in private collections in the UK, United States, Canada, Greece, Australia and Ireland. She has exhibited in the Royal Academy, The Royal Cambrian Academy and The Royal West of England Academy. In February 2023 she won second prize in the Swansea Open competition.
